VCTKS v1.1a test plan now available

After the release of the Visa Contactless Transit Kernel Specifications (VCTKS) v1.1 in March 2020, (read previous post HERE), the new test plan v1.1a and Device Questionnaire & ICS are now available. Connect to Visa technology Partner website.

The new test plan applies for new submissions starting November 16th, whether the submitted terminal has been developed to VCTKS v1.0.2 or v1.1.

The devices that were authorised for testing prior to this date can be tested with v1.0.2 test plan. 

Product providers should now develop their transit payment terminal with the dedicated and current kernel to ensure full compliancy with the current test plan.

Visa contactless libraries – What are the differencies ?

To ensure that contactless transactions are always processed securely, Visa has adapted their contactless specifications to fit with certain payment environments constraints.

Payment solution providers must be aware of the differencies between VCPS, VCTKS or VRTPS to develop and certify their products according the requirements set by Visa.

VCTKS 1.1 is available

The latest version of VCTKS (Visa Contactless Transit Kernel Specification) v 1.1 is now available. 

We constantly work on the improvement of our embedded software payment suite against the latest requirements released by international payment standards.

VCTKS is the Visa contactless library designed to be implemented into terminals dedicated to smart fare collection in transit networks.

Terminal providers looking to integrate Visa to their transit terminals must submit the appropriate VCTKS kernel to functional testing session to ensure that the kernel supports particular features required to process contactless transactions in transit. Ready to get onboard with VCTKS ?

The VCTKS specification released last year drives the transformation of smart payment in public transports. It is intended for use by vendors implementing transit kernels and terminals that accept Visa contactless cards and mobile devices.

It replaces the Visa ODA  for qVSDC Online Specification better known as VOQOS.

The two transit models of particular importance are :

  • the Mass Transit Transaction (MTT), when the fare amount is determined after the travel has taken place 
  • the Known Fare Transaction  (KFT) when the fare amount is known at the point of entry.

VCTKS defines the requirements and recommendations to be used in a transit acceptance environment and perform either a MTT or a KFT.

This specification has to be read in conjunction, not only with the Visa Contactless Transit  Implementation Guide (VCTIG) but also with the Visa Contactless Transit Terminal Requirements and Implementation Guide. The both guides define the Visa rules for transit payment acceptance.
