Specific approval rules for EMV® Contact Level 2 kernels
Specific approval rules when submitting additional configurations or when renewing already approved EMV® Contact level 2 kernels
EMVCo has recently published a new bulletin (TTA bulletin 199) defining the specific approval rules applying for additional configurations and renewal to already approved EMV contact Level 2 kernels.
Whereas all new contact kernels must strictly comply with the latest specifications and applicable test plans, additional configurations or already certified kernels might not support the latest updates.
3 bulletins are concerned by the specific approval status that can be granted to additional configurations or renewal of EMV Contact Level 2 kernels. The restricted approval can be accepted by EMVCo depending on the range of tests fails (if the initial kernel does not support the 3 bulletins below) and the initial approval date :
Bulletin Update BU228 – Contact Terminal Level 2 Approval – 43h Test Cases Update
Specification Bulletin No. 220 – EMV® Contact Kernel Output
Specification Bulletin No. 272 – Update of Date Management Requirements
The bulletin also mentions that any submission (initial, renewal, additional config.) with a kernel not configured to support transaction date after 2038 might be accepted, with a note to the letter of Approval.
